It is estimated that the national average of uninsured motorists is roughly around fourteen percent, which is unfortunate due to the risks that are involved that come with driving without a policy. Many consumers decide to discontinue policies because they believe they may no longer be able to afford to stay insured, but taking the time to shop around may help locate an affordable policy and protect against the huge burdens that can come from an uncovered traffic accident. Although purchasing auto insurance is something that an individual may easily frown upon, there is a reason that states make them mandatory and it is not only to protect others on the road, but also the policyholder.

Individuals may think that cheap car insurance companies may be out of reach because they may have a bad driving record and/or be considered a high risk, or are struggling financially, but it is in a driver’s best interest to stay within the laws of their state to avoid a financial and emotional catastrophe. Fines can reach more than $1,000 and in many cases this amount could be more than the cost of coverage. Couple that with the chance of causing an accident where injuries and property damage are sustained by a third party and the costs can reach tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars; it is simply not worth the risk.
